Abstract: With the rapid advancement of Generative AI (GenAI), debates have emerged about whether AI systems might replace human teachers in foreign language (FL) education. Using an adapted Technology Acceptance Model (TAM and TAM2) tailored to scientists, this study investigates the anticipated role of GenAI in FL education and scientists’ willingness to advocate its adoption. Based on questionnaire responses from 161 bilingual or multilingual GenAI scientists, the mixed‐methods study found that GenAI is generally perceived as useful and acceptable for FL education, but not as a replacement for teachers. They envision a future in which GenAI augments instruction while educators shift toward roles involving mentorship, cultural mediation, and ethical oversight. The findings suggest that GenAI adoption requires a human‐centered approach prioritizing output quality, trust, responsible use, and professional development, emphasizing augmentation over automation.
