Dark Matter Pair Production in Blazar Jets
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: Protons in blazar jets can collide at center-of-mass energies far above the LHC when the accelerated protons are isotropic in the rest frame of the emitting region. We study pair production of a Dirac-fermion dark-matter particle X through the dimension-6 contact interaction (1/Λ²)(q̄q)(X̄X). A deterministic scan finds that the region above threshold and within EFT validity is 3.16×10⁸ < Λ ≤ 10¹¹ GeV, 10⁶ ≤ m_X < 1.58×10⁸ GeV. Even for prompt decay, predicted gamma-ray, neutrino and cosmic-ray fluxes stay below current limits. For TXS 0506+056 and BL Lacertae, the event rate of stable X in a cubic-kilometer detector is at least 10^26.9 times below three events in ten years.
