For adult patients with paraplegia requiring long-term indwelling bladder catheterisation, how does suprapubic catheterisation compare to indwelling urethral Foley catheterisation in terms of symptomatic CAUTI, recurrent UTI, bladder stones, urethral complications, catheter blockage, hospital admissions, and quality of life?

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: No direct comparative evidence between suprapubic and urethral Foley catheterisation was identified. However, SPC may be associated with reduced urethral complications and possibly lower UTI rates, potentially improving patient comfort and quality of life.
