Benefícios do reuso de água em lavanderias hospitalares: uma análise da gestão hospitalar sustentável

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Water scarcity and the need to adopt environmentally sustainable practices represent significant challenges for contemporary hospital management, particularly in sectors with high water consumption, such as hospital laundries. In this context, the present study aimed to analyze the importance of water reuse in hospital laundries, considering its impacts on operational efficiency, cost reduction, water resource conservation, and alignment with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with emphasis on SDGs 6, 12, and 13. This study consists of a bibliographic research and literature review based on academic books and databases such as SciELO, LILACS, PubMed, and Google Scholar, considering publications from 2019 to 2024 and using the descriptors “water reuse,” “hospital laundry,” “hospital sustainability,” and “environmental management in healthcare.” The thematic analysis included institutional experiences and studies related to the application of water reuse, its feasibility, and its environmental and economic impacts. The results highlighted benefits associated with reduced water consumption, decreased effluent generation, optimization of inputs, and lower operational costs. Among the cases analyzed, international and Brazilian experiences stood out, demonstrating different levels of scalability and economic return, including significant reductions in water consumption and financial savings. It is concluded that water reuse in hospital laundries constitutes a sustainable management strategy capable of integrating operational efficiency, socio-environmental responsibility, and resource optimization. The role of the hospital manager is therefore essential in the planning, implementation, monitoring, and expansion of these practices.
