The Effect of Audio-Based Islamic Mindful Hypnotherapy on Public Speaking Anxiety Among Students at Campus X in Bone Regency

Abstract: Public Speaking Anxiety (PSA) is a prevalent performance-related anxiety that may interfere with students’ academic participation and communication competence in higher education. This study examined whether an audio-based Islamic Mindful-Hypnotherapy intervention was associated with reduced PSA among exclusively Muslim female undergraduate students at Campus X in Bone Regency. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design with repeated measures was employed. Thirteen female students were recruited, and nine completed all intervention sessions. PSA was measured using the Indonesian-adapted Public Speaking Anxiety Scale (PSAS) at four measurement points. Mean PSAS scores progressively decreased from 119.67 (SD = 10.62) at pretest to 81.67 (SD = 7.73) at posttest. The Friedman test revealed significant differences across measurements, χ²(3) = 27.00, p < .001, with Kendall’s W = 1.00. Holm-corrected Wilcoxon tests confirmed significant reductions. These findings provide preliminary support for a culturally congruent and scalable intervention. However, the small sample, absence of a control group, and exclusive inclusion of female participants limit causal interpretation and generalizability.
