Speaking to a partner in a shared memory task: An EEG study
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: We often ask others to help us remember information, but how does speaking to others influence memory? Transactive memory theory predicts that exchanging information while learning allows partners to divide the memory load, such that each person can forget the partner’s share of the information. Yet, producing information (e.g., speaking) has been shown to improve memory compared to perceiving (the production effect). Using EEG, this preregistered study examines the neural correlates of speaking to a partner in a shared memory context.
