Abstract: The corn moth overwinters primarily in the soil in the pupal stage. In the spring, as temperatures rise, the adults emerge and lay eggs on newly sown plots. Upon hatching, the larvae penetrate the soil and feed on germinating seeds, root collars, and young stems. As a result, seedling growth ceases or the plants wither. Development takes 20—40 days, depending on climatic conditions. Most species produce 2—4 generations per year. This article examines the development of the corn moth (Anthomyiidae) and the biological efficacy of control measures against it.
