Fig. S3.4. Chapter 3: Sediment geochemistry and clast stratigraphy of the Port Askaig Formation

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Fig. S3.4. Stratigraphic trend plots of additional elements. Plots showing the concentration variations of K2O, Y, Ga, Rb, Th and REE in the diamictite matrix over the stratigraphic column of the PAF. These elements are associated with glacially derived silt size fractions. Intra-suite linear regression trendlines have been added to all suites except S2, and are all indicating increasing intra-suite element concentrations. At the top of each of these suites an arrow indicates a return to lower concentrations at the base of the next suite. The analysis is based on 159 diamictite matrix samples from the Garvellachs, Islay and Donegal, excluding the six most carbonate and/or quartz diluted samples. Triangles in blue indicate diamictite samples from the Garvellachs, magenta from megablocks within the Great Breccia in the Garvellachs, red from Islay and black from Donegal.
