Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Objectives: This study examines the effects of transformational leadership and organizational culture on village officials’ performance, with work engagement as a mediator, in Garung Subdistrict, Wonosobo Regency. Methods: All 152 village personnel on the administrative roster were invited using total population sampling, yielding 120 usable questionnaires from formal village officials; data were analysed with PLS-SEM in SmartPLS using a higher-order construct specification. Research Gap/Novelty: Leadership and culture are rarely modelled together in village administrations; this study treats them as proximal and contextual job resources within JD-R theory and distinguishes work engagement from work motivation as the mediating mechanism. Results: Transformational leadership and organizational culture positively affect work engagement and performance, and work engagement positively affects performance. Work engagement partially (complementarily) mediates both relationships. Conclusion: Village governments should integrate leadership development, cultural reinforcement, and work engagement to strengthen officials’ performance.
