A. S. Pushkin’s “Winter Morning” in Tatar: artistic features of translations from different periods
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The purpose of the study is to reveal the specific features of conveying the poetics of the original in Tatar based on a comparative analysis of translations of A. S. Pushkin’s poem “Winter Morning” by A. Ishak and L. Shayekh, produced in different periods. The scientific novelty lies in providing the first analysis of how the distinctive features of Pushkin’s canonical poem are embodied in Tatar translations. The study identifies the main ways of conveying the form and content of Pushkin’s poem in the translated texts, analyzes translation transformations, and reveals the distinctive features of the translations in comparison with one another. The authors emphasize that translators’ approaches to literary translation vary depending on historical conditions and prevailing views of translated texts in different periods. The study demonstrates that each translation reflects an interpretation of the original shaped by the translator’s individual attitudes and the expectations of the receiving culture. In L. Shayekh’s translation, “Winter Morning” undergoes considerable changes, whereas A. Ishak provides an adequate translation of the literary work as an integrated and unique unity of content, language, and style, consistent with the traditions of the Soviet school of translation. Translations of the canonical poem from different periods make it possible to document the interpretive transformation of the classical text in the Tatar artistic consciousness.
