Algorithmic heartbeats of care: museotherapy, educational poverty, and affective mediation in vulnerable childhood contexts
Year: 2026
Type: book-chapter
Abstract: Digital transformation and artificial intelligence are redefining relationships among individuals, knowledge, learning environments, and cultural participation (Floridi, 2014). The pedagogical challenge is to orient these processes toward inclusion and educational continuity in vulnerable contexts, especially hospital schooling, where long-term hospitalization limits school attendance, cultural participation, and children's connections with educational communities and territories (Luckin, George, & Cukurova, 2022; di Padova et al., 2023). Educational poverty thus involves reduced access to symbolic heritage, exploratory environments, and relational practices that nurture imagination and belonging (Fornari & Sannipoli, 2022). This reflection arises from a project at the "Bottega dei Ragazzi" of the Museum of the Istituto degli Innocenti. The 2022–2025 workshop mapping showed how archives, artworks, images, and historical traces become symbolic mediators of interpretation and narrative meaning-making (Bruner, 1993). The museum is therefore understood as an educational territory promoting cultural participation and relational continuity.
