Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Clinical Trial
Abstract: This experimental study aimed to evaluate the impact of Guided Expressive Writing (GEW) on reducing academic stress among final-year students at Universitas Negeri Manado. A quantitative pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, involving N = 40 students selected via purposive sampling. Academic stress was assessed before and after intervention using a validated Academic Stress Scale. The GEW intervention was conducted across 6 structured sessions with targeted topics. Data were processed using SPSS software, applying the Shapiro-Wilk normality test and Paired Sample t-Test. The results revealed a statistically significant reduction in stress scores (t = 16.284, p = 0.000, p < 0.05), with the mean score decreasing by 25.65 points (from 87.45 to 61.80). These empirical findings confirm that Guided Expressive Writing effectively lowers academic stress and serves as a viable self-help technique for campus mental health initiatives.
