Abstract: The purpose of the study is to identify the fundamental characteristics of American gluttonic ergonyms and pragmatonyms in Fannie Flagg’s English-language novel “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café” and its Russian translation. The scientific originality lies in clarifying the semantic, structural-typological, functional, and translation-related features of gluttonic ergonyms and pragmatonyms in literary discourse. A comprehensive analysis of the novel’s gluttonic onomastics made it possible to identify the systemic organization of the units under study and determine the patterns of their interlingual transformation. The findings show that the gluttonic ergonyms and pragmatonyms in the novel form several semantic groups and that their functions extend beyond simple nomination. The semantic motivation of these units is predominantly hybrid, while the leading structural model is the attributive construction. Translating ergonyms and pragmatonyms requires a creative approach, the use of explicative strategies, and a combination of various translation techniques. The study also notes that translating allusive names requires additional explanations from the translator.
