Abstract: This study provides an ecological assessment of soil degradation processes occurring in the irrigated agro-ecosystems of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, including salinization, deflation, and the reduction of humus content. The modern agrochemical and agrophysical state of irrigated soils in the lower reaches of the Amu Darya will be studied. According to the results, it was found that traditional farming methods lead to the destruction of soil structure and a decrease in fertility. To address the problem, scientific and practical solutions for soil fertility management based on resource-saving agricultural technologies (minimal tillage, use of organic fertilizers, and water-saving irrigation methods) have been proposed.
