Abstract: The article discusses the ecological life forms of hydrobionts and their functional significance in aquatic ecosystems. The main ecological groups of hydrobionts are characterized: plankton, nekton, benthos, periphyton, pelagobenthos, neuston and pleuston. The features of their adaptation to the conditions of the aquatic environment, to spatial distribution and to various ecological factors are described.
