Abstract: The article examines the current state of teachers’ use of effective forms of assessing biological knowledge, since the main issue in solving the tasks of raising the effectiveness and quality of the learning process is linked to the modernization of the assessment system in biology education. In-school monitoring of educational achievements aimed at attaining the planned educational outcomes is described. The unsatisfactory use of academic performance assessment in education is also linked to a shortage of qualified teaching staff, the underdevelopment of pedagogical science and the weak material and technical base of the education system.
