Abstract: The widespread use of short-form video content has made its effect on cognitive processes, sustained attention in particular, a pressing subject of study. The aim of the study is to determine experimentally the role of the fragmentation of video material at equal exposure duration. The study provides for the participation of 60 people aged 20–21, divided into three groups: viewing short fragmented video clips, viewing continuous video material, and a control group with no video exposure. Attention before and after the 30-minute exposure is assessed with the Continuous Performance Test (CPT), the Sustained Attention to Response Task (SART) and the d2 Test of Attention; changes are compared using statistical analysis methods that take into account the interaction of time and experimental condition. The results show that the most pronounced changes in sustained attention arise after viewing fragmented short-form content compared with continuous video and the control. These changes are reflected in reaction time variability, performance accuracy and the number of errors, which indicates the influence of the structure of video material alongside its duration. The data obtained serve as a basis for further experimental study of the impact of the digital environment on neurocognitive processes.
