Theoretical frameworks in media and suicide research: a scoping review and critical interpretive synthesis
Year: 2026
Type: article
Study design: Systematic Review
Abstract: A scoping review and critical interpretive synthesis mapping the theoretical frameworks used to conceptualize the role of media and communication in the meaning and representation of suicide. The review contrasts the dominant effects model with a representation strand and assesses the degree of theoretical grounding across the field. It follows PRISMA-ScR and the JBI scoping review guidance. This OSF project holds the registered protocol, the search exports, the data charting matrix and the analysis files, deposited under FAIR principles.
