Kajian Konseptual Tentang Persepsi Dan Otoritas: Reverse Profiling Siswa Terhadap Guru Muda

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Teacher authority is not only associated with formal authority but also with students’ acceptance of how such authority is exercised. This article develops the concept of reverse profiling to explain how students observe and interpret teachers’ professional and personal characteristics, construct subjective profiles, and use them to form expectations and respond to teacher authority. This conceptual study synthesizes literature on teacher authority and credibility, student perceptions, teacher–student relationships, warmth and control, and teacher professional ethics. The novelty lies in positioning reverse profiling as a process mechanism that connects teacher characteristics with profile formation, perceived credibility, legitimacy, and responses to authority. Young teachers provide an important context because age may shape students’ initial impressions, which can subsequently be revised through experiences of competence, consistency, fairness, care, and professionalism. The article produces a conceptual model and seven propositions that can be empirically examined in future research.
