Abstract: The significance of studying the concept “mother” lies in the fact that this unit, on the one hand, denotes biological kinship and, on the other, embodies the ethical, moral and gender notions of Karakalpak society related to the mother. The research material comprises Karakalpak proverbs and sayings and paremiological units related to the image of the mother. The material was analysed using linguocultural, conceptual-semantic, componential and gender analysis methods. The analysis established that lexemes such as “ana”, “apa”, “áje” and “aya” carry a positive evaluative meaning and are linked to concepts such as compassion, goodness, wisdom and responsibility. Thus, studying the concept “mother” on the basis of paremiological material makes it possible to identify the national and cultural values of the Karakalpak people, the family model and the specific features of the gendered worldview.
