Abstract: This article examines the pedagogical potential of artificial intelligence for developing school students’ research skills in biology lessons. Research competence is understood as an integrated ability to formulate a problem and hypothesis, design an investigation, collect and analyse data, construct evidence-based conclusions, and communicate findings. Based on a theoretical and methodological review, the paper proposes a five-stage model for AI-supported inquiry, sample learning tasks, assessment criteria, and conditions for safe use. The central argument is that the educational value of AI lies not in producing ready-made answers but in strengthening students’ questioning, evidence verification, data interpretation, and reflection.
