Abstract: The article examines the conversion of women scientists’ research potential into economic results as an innovation- and technology-driven economy takes shape in Uzbekistan. The economic demand for scientific research is assessed on the basis of the Economic Complexity and Global Innovation indices, patent activity, high-technology and digital export targets, and technology investment projects. A comparison of official statistics on the share of women in higher education with international data substantiates the risk of losing women scientists’ potential at the “research – patent – commercialization” stages and the lack of gender-disaggregated innovation statistics, and institutional mechanisms for commercializing this potential are proposed.
