Abstract: The article investigates the etymological features of the names of the frame parts of the yurt, which holds a special place in the material culture of the Karakalpak people, namely kerege, shańaraq and uwıq. The origin, meaning and content, as well as the processes of historical formation, of the lexical units denoting the frame parts of the yurt are analysed. The connection of these terms with the native Turkic vocabulary is examined, together with the role of lexical elements borrowed from other languages in their formation. The study reveals the etymology and semantic features of the names related to the structure of the yurt.
