The Pure and Transformed Personality Model: Cumulative Personality Transformation and Remaining Precipitates
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Personality models used in selling and training need some stability to describe a person with a defined style, yet practitioners often meet someone who "does not fit a single box." This paper presents a model introduced by the author in his book on psychological selling as an extension of his animal-world theory of personality. It distinguishes the pure personality, whose dominant style has remained relatively stable ("was and still is"), from the transformed personality, whose dominant style has changed through experience, environment and roles ("was and then became"), and introduces the concept of remaining precipitates to describe traits of a former style that persist in current behavior. The paper reorganizes these elements into a four-stage temporal model: baseline, transformation drivers, current dominant style and remaining precipitates. It distinguishes momentary state variation, trait tendency and sustained developmental change, drawing on research on personality stability and change and within-person variability, and states clearly what this research does and does not support, including that the "10% pure, 90% transformed" split is an estimate within the model rather than an established prevalence figure.
