Integration of Renewable Energy and Environmental Engineering in Civil Construction: Strategies for Sustainability, Energy Efficiency and Climate Resilience

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The construction industry plays a significant role in economic and social development, but it is also associated with natural resource consumption, energy demand and environmental impacts. In view of the challenges posed by climate change, strategies that promote sustainability and energy efficiency must be incorporated into the planning, construction and operation of buildings. This study aims to analyze the integration of renewable energy and Environmental Engineering principles in civil construction, identifying strategies capable of reducing environmental impacts, optimizing energy performance and strengthening the climate resilience of buildings. The research adopts a qualitative, exploratory and descriptive approach, based on a literature review of scientific publications, technical standards and institutional documents. The alternatives examined include photovoltaic solar energy, passive architectural strategies, efficient water resource management, the selection of materials with lower environmental impacts and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. The analysis seeks to highlight opportunities for integrating these solutions throughout the building life cycle, considering environmental benefits, technical limitations and implementation challenges. The study is expected to contribute to understanding the relationships among renewable energy, Environmental Engineering and the development of built environments that are more efficient, sustainable and adaptable to contemporary climatic conditions.
