Type: conference-paper
Abstract: The article examines the contribution of selected Uzbek and Polish women researchers to the study of the history, multiethnicity and cultural memory of Uzbekistan after independence. A comparative historiographical analysis identifies three interrelated lines of research: the study of Soviet repressions; the study of migrations, deportations and diasporas; and the reconstruction of the history of the Polish presence. The works of Uzbek scholars have formed the conceptual and source base for studying a multinational society, while Polish authors have advanced research on the experience of Polish citizens and on sites of memory. Particular attention is paid to the works of Z. R. Ishankhodjaeva, R. Kh. Murtazaeva, D. M. Inoyatova, A. Kh. Rakhmankulova, K. D. Saipova, T. I. Doroshenko, M. M. Khashimova, S. Sh. Pirimkulova, A. Koział, A. Zapalec and E. Ziółkowska. Further development of the dialogue requires joint work with archives, expanded digital access to sources and the inclusion of microhistory in comparative memory studies.
