Optimizing biochar production from woody and husky biomass: The role of pyrolysis parameters and initial feedstock size on wheat yield
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Biochar, a carbon-rich material produced from the pyrolysis of biomass, is widely recognized for its potential to sequester carbon, enhance soil fertility and crop productivity. The physicochemical properties of biochar are intricately linked to a range of production variables. While extensive research has focused on the influence of pyrolysis temperature, and feedstock type, a significant portion of these studies investigates the effects of the final biochar particle size on soil and plant responses. This research, however, pivots to a less-explored yet critical variable: the initial feedstock particle size that governs the complex heat and mass transfer dynamics during pyrolysis.
