Abstract: The article examines the role of women scientists in Central Asia in strengthening regional scientific cooperation, advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and developing science diplomacy. Drawing on evidence from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, as well as the disciplinary profile of women scientists from Karakalpakstan, it identifies cooperation opportunities in ecology and water resources, agriculture, biotechnology, health, digital transformation and the humanities. UNESCO, United Nations and TWAS data are used to assess women’s participation in research and the importance of regional scientific platforms. The article concludes with practical proposals for joint research consortia, grants for early-career women researchers, academic mobility and an interdisciplinary Aral Sea regional research platform.
