Type: article
Abstract: Aim: This study aimed to assess perceptions of academic stress among undergraduate nursing students at a private university in Karachi, Pakistan. Background: Nursing education involves demanding academic schedules, examinations, clinical responsibilities, and assignments that may contribute to students’ perceived academic stress. Understanding these stressors is essential for improving student well-being and educational support. Methodology: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among N=197 undergraduate nursing students at Iqra University North Campus, Karachi, using a simple random sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire adapted from the Perception of Academic Stress Scale. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize participants’ demographic characteristics and responses to academic stress-related statements. Conclusion: Criticism of academic performance was a prominent perceived stressor (M = 3.57, SD = 1.29). Examination concerns, academic workload, and teachers’ expectations were also reported as potential stressors. Nursing institutions should strengthen academic guidance, counselling, time-management support, and stress-management initiatives to promote students’ well-being and academic success.
