Abstract: Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common musculoskeletal condition affecting the quality of life of older adults. Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the socio-demographic and clinical profile of osteoarthritis patients in a tertiary care hospital. Methodology: This descriptive observational study was done among 68 cases of knee osteoarthritis for the period from December 2016 to May 2017 in Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, Shahbagh, Dhaka. All data were analyzed by SPSS software version 22 (Statistical package of social science). Results were expressed as mean (±SD), frequency and percentage. Results: Among the 68 osteoarthritis patients, the majority were female (77.94%) with a mean age of 54.06 ± 10.02 years and mean BMI of 28.05 ± 4.82 kg/m². Most patients were non-smokers (77.94%), and 35.29% had a positive family history of knee osteoarthritis. Knee pain was present in all patients, while stiffness and warmth were observed in 77.94% and 32.35% of patients, respectively. Common co-morbidities included hypertension (50%) and diabetes mellitus (30.88%). The mean VAS score was 5.88 ± 1.82 and the mean total WOMAC score was 106.88 ± 30.79, indicating moderate pain and significant functional limitation among the patients. Conclusion: Osteoarthritis in Bangladesh was more common among middle-aged overweight females and was associated with substantial pain, stiffness, and functional impairment. Hypertension and diabetes were frequent co-morbid conditions. Medicine Today 2026, Vol.38 (2): 290-293
