Knowledge in the Marketplace: The Rare Book Trade, History of Science, and the Sociology of Texts
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: The rare book trade plays a large but almost entirely unacknowledged role in the formation of historical knowledge. This essay draws on the author's experience in both academic history of science and rare book dealing, in order to explain the differences between these two activities, and ways in which they might be brought closer together-to the benefit of both.
