Beyond Aesthetics: Evaluating the Psychological, Social Impact & Self-esteem of PRP Therapy in Dermatologic Practice
Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Background: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is widely used for aesthetic dermatologic conditions, yet its effects on psychological and social domains remain underexplored. Objective: To evaluate the impact of PRP therapy on self-esteem, social perception, and emotional well-being in patients with common dermatologic concerns. Methods: This prospective observational study enrolled 60 patients undergoing PRP therapy. A 12-item Likert-scale questionnaire (total score 12–60) assessed self-esteem (4 items), social perception (6 items), and emotional well-being (2 items) before and after treatment. Improvement scores were categorized as mild, moderate, marked, or very high. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: According to Likert-scale, mean total score of patients after PRP therapy increased significantly from 25.4 ± SD to 49.5, with an average improvement of 24.1 points. Improvement was marked in 43.3% of patients, moderate in 46.7%, very high in 5%, and mild in 5%. Subscale scores showed notable gains in self-esteem (8.4 to 16.3), social perception (12.9 to 25.0), and emotional well-being (4.0 to 8.1). These benefits were consistent across both genders and all treatment indications. Conclusion: PRP therapy produces substantial psychological and social benefits alongside aesthetic improvements, supporting its role as a holistic dermatologic intervention.
