Abstract: This study analyzed the relationship between mobile device use, academic performance, and student behavior among Business Management Engineering students at the Technological Institute of Nuevo León. A mixed-methods, descriptive-correlational design was employed through a self-administered questionnaire applied to 300 students and a focus group with 25 participants. Results revealed that 61.7% of students frequently used mobile devices for academic purposes; however, social media and entertainment remained common non-academic activities. Additionally, 69.4% reported being easily distracted while studying, and 64.3% acknowledged procrastination behaviors associated with device use. Spearman correlation analysis identified a significant negative relationship between distraction and academic performance [rs = -0.124, p = .032], and a positive relationship between sleep duration and academic performance [rs = 0.137, p = .030]. Findings suggest that the educational impact of mobile devices depends largely on students self-regulation and patterns of use.
