Causal-Layer Alignment and the Safe Family: Qur'anic Family Ethics, Covenant-Specific Diagnosis and Justified External Intervention

Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: . How can Islamic family ethics guide action without equating marital duration or wealth with familystrength? Beginning with Qur’an 30:21, this conceptual article integrates Islamic legal ethics, social phenomenol-ogy, family research and intervention science. TAPE Contract distinguishes lived reality, a particular covenant, rights and limits, coordination, and communication. These five layers organize hypotheses, not a proven causalhierarchy. The proposed diagnostic separation of observed problem, supported cause and authorized actionis illustrated through nine constructed Muslim-family vignettes. A bodily–psychosocial–material safety frame-work distinguishes poverty from culpable neglect. Zakat, juristically specified collective obligations and publicprotection are treated as distinct sources of responsibility; maqāṣid al-sharī’ah guides ethical evaluation with-out creating legal authority. Qur’anic 4:1 adds Godward accountability to mutual claims without authorisingunchecked human authority; faith-informed reflection on amanah and tawakkul does not excuse avoidable in-action. Drawing on a 2024 authorial training manual and carefully scoped Thai studies as context rather thanvalidation, the paper proposes testable distinctions for premarital clarification, repair, capacity support, protec-tion and fair separation. Keywords: Causal-layer alignment; family safeguarding; Islamic family ethics; maqasid al-shari’ah; social pro-tection.
