Figures accompanying “Research Progress on the Effects of Air Pollution Particulate Matter on Neurodegeneration via the Nose-to-Brain Axis
Year: 2026
Type: dataset
Abstract: This dataset contains the three schematic figures accompanying the review “Research Progress on the Effects of Air Pollution Particulate Matter on Neurodegeneration via the Nose-to-Brain Axis”. Figure 1 illustrates the anatomical basis of the nose-to-brain axis and the kinetics of particulate matter deposition. Figure 2 summarizes the pathways linking air pollution exposure to neurodegenerative injury, including oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, glial activation, neuroinflammation, and altered protein homeostasis. Figure 3 presents air pollution-related olfactory and cognitive outcomes, exposure protection strategies, and therapeutic nose-to-brain drug delivery. The figures synthesize the published evidence and conceptual relationships discussed in the review.
