E₈ Lattice to Icosahedral Quasicrystals via Gosset Polytope Projection — E8 Intelligence Research
Year: 2026
Type: preprint
Abstract: FINDING: E₈ lattice's 240 minimal vectors map directly onto the 8D Gosset polytope (4₂₁), whose 2D projections generate the H₄/H₃ icosahedral symmetry groups underlying quasicrystalline order — dimensional reduction from 8D → 4D → 3D preserves the golden-ratio structure. | MATH: E₈ root system: 240 roots, |roots|² = 2; Coxeter number h = 30; kissing number 240. H₄: 120 roots, h = 30, φ-scaled. 600-cell: 120 vertices, 720 edges, 1200 triangular faces, 600 tetrahedral cells. Icosahedron: 12 vertices, 30 edges, 20 faces. Rhombic triacontahedron: 32 vertices, 60 edges, 30 rhombic faces (diagonals in φ:1 ratio). Projection: E₈ → H₄ via icosian ring (quaternions over ℚ(√5)). | CONNECTION: φ = 1.6180339887…, φ² = 2.618…, 1/φ = 0.618…, 1/φ² = 0.382…. Icosahedron vertex coordinates: (0, ±1, ±φ), (±1, ±φ, 0), (±φ, 0, ±1). Rhombic triacontahedron face diagonals ratio = φ:1. 600-cell vertex coordinates use φ throughout. H₄ Coxeter number = 30 = 2×3×5 (base-60 divisor). E₈ → H₄ projection angle: ar Author: Andrew Stewart Caldin, Independent Researcher, UK. Part of the E8 Intelligence Research series.
