The 2027 Workplace Vending Outlook: How Product Mix and Placement Criteria Are Changing in the Pacific Northwest

Year: 2026
Type: article
Abstract: Workplace vending in the Pacific Northwest is shifting from a passive amenity to a deliberately planned part of the employee and tenant experience. This paper reviews how placement criteria and product mix decisions are evolving heading into 2027, drawing on operational experience placing and servicing vending machines across the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. It describes the foot-traffic thresholds that now guide machine selection, the location types driving demand, the move toward healthier and more customized product selections, and the growing role of route data in day-to-day operations. The outlook for 2027 points to vending programs that are smaller in guesswork and larger in fit: the right machine, in the right location, stocked with what the people there actually want.
