Abstract: Islamophobia is one of the social problems of our time.The content of the concept of Islamophobia is largely explained by its etymology.As is known, the concept of Islamophobia comes from the Arabic word "Islam" and the Greek word "phobia", that is, fear of Islam.This concept promotes fear, hatred, including intolerance and violence towards Islam and people belonging to this religion.Islamophobia is considered one of the forms of racism, intolerance and discrimination.Islamophobia as a social problem currently manifests itself mainly in Western countries.In these countries Muslims are considered to be the culprits of such negative problems as poverty, unemployment, crime, violence, religious radicalism and fundamentalism.In such a situation Islamophobic ideas manifest themselves as one of the main directions of European socio-political thought.The article analyzes the causes of the spread of Islamophobia in Western countries in the modern era.
