Study design: Systematic Review
Abstract: We conducted a systematic literature review of studies on Environmental Education (EE) in Early Childhood Education (ECE) in Brazil, published on the Portal de Periódicos CAPES between 2011 and 2025. We analyzed the main characteristics of the 56 articles selected in the search. The Southern Region accounted for the highest number of publications (27), followed by studies with a national scope (20). The majority of studies involved the school community (46%), while few focused exclusively on students (3%). A large proportion of the studies had practical approach (58.9%), with a predominance of themes related to pedagogical practices (20%) and the formation of ecological and ethical subjects (12.73%). Among the theoretical studies (36.36%), notable topics included the analysis of guiding documents for ECE and the various currents, trends, and methodologies in EE. A gap was observed regarding children's participation in the studies, indicating a possibility for expanding this approach in future research to enhance EE in early childhood.
