Abstract: PRADESM einhard, H., war es, der im Mai 1939 erneut auf das indische Schattenspiel hinwies und als dessen Schwerpunkt "the Kanarese-speaking southern Deccan" ansah.Eine Zusammenfassung seiner damaligen Ausfübrungen erschien in MAN (Meinhard, 1939, pp.109-111) unter dem Titel "The Javanese Wayang and its Indian Prototype".Die vor ihm befeits durch Pischel und Jaoob aufgegriffenen Fragen über Herkunft und interregionale Beziehungen stellte Meinhard erneut zur Diskussion.lm letzten Abschnitt seiner Ausführungen schreibt er u.a.: 'In comparison with the volume of literature on the Javanese Wayang, next to nothing is so f ar known of the Indian shadow-play and cognate artistic forms.-Acloser investigation of the Indian shadow and similar plays, of all the customs, rites and beliefs connected with them, together with a publication of play-texts, would probably yield, among other results, a new light on the Javanese Wayang.' Dies gilt auch noch heute.
