Current Usage Patterns and Attitudes Toward Handheld Computers in Clinical Care.

Year: 2000
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: INTRODUCTIONHandheld computers or personal digital assistants (PDAs) are being used more commonly in our technologically advanced society, and may offer tremendous benefits in helping physicians access, manage and share medical information. It has been previously documented that approximately 85% of physicians would consider carrying a handheld device', though their current usage pattems are unclear. It was the aim of this study to determine the current level of PDA use by physicians in two distinctly different clinical settings and to identify factors that facilitate or inhibit their use in the clinical environment. Additionally, we sought to identify both hardware and software preferences of the study participants.
