The Role of Opponent Basal Ganglia Outputs in Behavior
Description: Relevance The basal ganglia are implicated in many neurological and psychiatric disorders, such as Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. A better understanding of the mechanisms is critical for therapeutic developments for these disorders. By expanding our knowledge of how basal ganglia outputs generate behavior, the proposed studies can lead to novel treatment strategies for disorders with basal ganglia pathology.
