Healthcare professionals’ perceptions on post discharge information summary (PDIS): application of the theoretical domains framework (TDF) to identify barriers and enablers for implementation
Description: Background
The preliminary findings of the Patient Discharge Information System (PDIS) evaluation imply that the intervention is good strategy to improve the information giving on medicine for the discharged patients or their caregivers under the limited resources in the healthcare system. However, the PDIS was not implemented as intended. Systemic evaluation of the adoption of PDIS is needed to provide more valuable information on its implementation and enhancement in future. This study aims to use an implementation science theory guided approach to systematically examine the belief and behaviour of healthcare professionals regarding PDIS implementation in public inpatient setting.
Methods
A mixed-method design will be used to systematically explore four hospitals stakeholders’ perceived barriers and enables to the implementation of the PDIS in geriatric and medicine care. Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF) will be used to guide the investigation of implementation. This study consists of three steps: (1) To identify barriers and enablers from an implementation perspective with a guide informed; (2) To devise theory-based implementation strategy packages to facilitate the adoption and enhancement of PDIS by preforming strategy mapping exercise; and (3) To develop a final implementation strategy package for scaling up PDIS in other hospitals as well as other specialities using Dephi expert discussion
Outcomes
The goal of mixed-method design is to understand the phenomenon of implementation of programme in the context of study setting through different study methods to aids in exploration and development the implementation strategies of adoption and enhancement of PDIS in discharge process
