Microbicide delivery system to target lymphoid organs
Description: 7. Project Narrative To prevent HIV transmission using a microbicide system, it may be necessary to deliver the antiviral drug to different mucosal and lymphoid sites in the female genital tract. Current topical microbicides are formulated with molecular drugs that target the mucosa only. This grant proposes to study the possibility of delivering drugs by nanoparticles to lymphoid tissues and lymph nodes in sites surrounding the vagina.
