Hospital-based birth defects surveillance in Kampala, Uganda
Description: NARRATIVE This proposal aims to build on an already established birth defect surveillance program to determine the prevalence of major external birth defects in Kampala. The program will be implemented at four large hospitals in Kampala: Mulago, Mengo, Nsambya and Rubaga. In addition, a case control study will be nested within the surveillance program to describe the maternal risk factors including HIV and medications associated with major external birth defects.
