Epigenetic Mechanisms of Neurodevelopment in Prenatal Alcohol Exposure
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) is a leading cause of preventable neurodevelopmental disability, and one contributory mechanism is impaired corticogenesis caused by alcohol’s suppression of neural progenitor cell (NPC) proliferation. This project investigates molecular mechanisms that contribute to this impaired proliferation, and tests the ability of prenatal choline supplementation to prevent these changes. Study outcomes will clarify the mechanistic action of choline in improving neurodevelopmental outcomes in PAE, and thus inform choline intervention strategies.
