Wnt Signaling in Stroke
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE The secreted frizzled-related protein 3 (sFRP3) regulates a signaling pathway that might cause inflammation when activated in brain cells known as microglia. We will investigate whether sFRP3 produced in another type of brain cell, the astrocytes, enhances the beneficial activities of microglia and thereby improves outcomes of mice with brain hemorrhage. We will attempt to understand the underlying cellular and molecular mechanisms by which astrocyte sFRP3 acts on the hemorrhagic brain.
