Innovative solutions for the protection of people and buildings against vibrations caused by rail traffic
Description: The project is devoted to the development of innovative solutions for the protection of people and buildings against vibrations generated by rail traffic. Four products are planned to be invented for ballasted substructure (Under-Ballast Mats and Under-Sleeper Pads) as well as ballast-less track (Under-Slab Mats and Embedded Block Systems). An additional goal is to develop guidelines for the application of devices
reducing vibrations from railway traffic, determining their effectiveness and the scope of use. During the project, consisting of ten stages, the prototype devices will be developed and comprehensively tested in laboratory, taking into account the operating conditions in Poland. Within the initial project stages (1-3), innovative solutions will be developed as a result of the material and geometric optimization as well as computer simulations. The innovative products will be tested in laboratory conditions for vibration damping effectiveness, durability and resistance to adverse weather conditions. Then (stages 4 and 5), the developed devices will be manufactured by TINES and assembled by BUDIMEX on the testing field of the experimental track of the Railway Institute in Żmigród. The product tests conducted by the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Warsaw University of Technology are aimed at assessing their effectiveness in limiting low-frequency vibration, as a source of vibrations. Their measure will be the insertion loss - i.e. the proportion of vibration level for the layout of the railway track structure with the vibro-isolator relative to the reference system (without the vibro-isolator). In addition, the products will be tested for the effectiveness of reducing the vibrations at high frequencies - i.e. the noise - by the Institute of Environmental Protection. The results of field tests (stages 6, 7 and 8) will be used to validate vibration forecasting models (stage 9) and to develop guidelines for limiting vibrations from railway traffic (10)
