Aquaporin 1 and pulmonary hypertension
Description: NARRATIVE The experiments in this proposal will explore cellular pathways involved in the development of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a devastating disease with limited treatment options. In particular, we will explore whether specific protein-protein interactions featuring aquaporin 1 mediate the smooth muscle and endothelial changes in phenotype that contribute to vascular remodeling during development of pulmonary hypertension and whether these interactions can be targeted to reverse remodeling. Such information is crucial to advancing knowledge of disease pathology and developing new therapeutic options to treat this deadly disease.
