Inverse Methods for Spatiotemporal Characterization of Gastric Electrical Activity and its Association with Upper GI Symptoms from Cutaneous Multi-electrode Recordings

Description: Project Narrative Gastrointestinal (GI) problems give rise to 10 percent of initial patient visits to their physician and are challenging to identify and address if their cause is neither a blockage nor an infection. Although common procedures to capture neuromuscular gastric disorders involve measuring gastric emptying, which neither correlates with symptoms nor treatment response, recent findings with invasive electrical recordings show that spatiotemporal patterns of the gastric slow wave are associated with diagnosis, symptoms, and treatment response. In this study, we consider the advancement of our Bayesian inference based non-invasive approaches to characterize the gastric myoelectric activity using CT scans from human subjects, coupled with cutaneous multi-electrode recordings.
